A would like to recommend a great book by Aaron Beck, Prisoner of Hate which explains the cognitive Basis of Anger, Hostility, and Violence. This book is indeed of great interests for those interested in these topics.
Description of the book from the publisher:
"In his book Prisoners of Hate, Dr. Aaron T. Beck applies his established principles on the relationships among thinking processes, emotions, and behavioral expressions to the dark side of humanity. In fascinating and stunning detail, he breaks down the basic components of interpersonal conflict, domestic abuse, bigotry, and war and describes a common pattern of dysfunctional thinking. A book that will radically alter the way we think about destructive behavior, Prisoners of Hate also provides a solid framework for remedying these crucial problems." |

Dear REBTGuest,
REBT views hate, anger, and violence as virtually always self-defeating and caused by Must #2 (a demand on others): "You MUST treat me kindly, considerately, fairly, lovingly, morally, reciprocally, courteously, kindly, etc., otherwise you're a rotten person who deserves to roast in hell for eternity (and I've just appointed myself your roaster!)."
How does this square with Beck's take on it?
