Good morning all,

As we say in our preamble on the REBT Central home page:

This website forum is not affiliated with Drs. Beck and Ellis nor their institutes. We admire and are inspired by, but do not presume to represent or speak for these luminaries or their organizations.

As many people are aware, and as others who visit here are no doubt passionately concerned about,  the controversy surrounding the Albert Ellis vs. AEI continues.  If you don't know what I am talking about, I am afraid this post will not help to enlighten you very much, except to say that Dr. Albert Ellis, founder of the non-profit Albert Ellis Institute (AEI) and the board of directors of AEI have been locked in a tragic struggle over control of the institute, Dr. Ellis's status therein, payment of Dr. Ellis's considerable medical expenses, purity of the REBT teaching as well as other serious  issues.

If you are interested, you can begin to learn more about this very complex issue at the excellent REBT Network web site (not affiliated with REBT Central) at http://www.rebtnetwork.org/updates/newsbrief.html  Also, a snippet from that website is posted on this forum at http://s3.freepowerboards.com/rebtcentral/rebtcentral-about8.html .  You may also wish to vist the AEI website at http://www.albertellisinstitute.org/aei/index.html .

Epictetus wrote to me off-list earlier and it reminded me that while I would prefer to remain aloof from the Albert Ellis vs. AEI controversy, I had better state a policy as the debate is bound to come to our door sooner or later.

For the record, my position, and the position of REBT Central is to take no position on the Ellis vs. AEI controversy.  Rather, we intend to focus on learning, teaching and applying the principles and tools of CBT & REBT in our daily lives.

I am not unconcerned about Ellis vs. AEI, but I see it as essentially an in-fight, family squabble sort of thing between Dr. Ellis and AEI.  I would prefer that others carry on the "good fight" elsewhere while we remain a "Fair Witness", at least to the extent that is possible as fallible, limited human beans that we are.

Having said that, we  also realize that there is probably no way to entirely prevent such debate from happening at REBT Central.  So, I have decided, in the interest of "free expression" to create a new sub-forum where those of you who are interested may discuss it . . . but please keep the discussion in that special sub-forum, and do not allow it to spill over into other forums. And keep in mind that the views expressed there are the opinions of the individual authors and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of me, the owners, administrators, or moderators of REBT Central, or of Free Power Boards, the company which graciously hosts this discussion forum.

Thanks.

Aloha,

Rexhttp://www.albertellisinstitute.org/aei/index.html
